RÉCIDENCE ONE

This film is a response to 2020 Venice Biennale's theme 'Living Together'. It explores a new apartment building designed by Farshid Moussavi Architecture at the edge of Paris in La Défense. The two-screen film installation presents a tapestry of voices and points of view that paint a picture of the everyday at Résidence One. Interviews with 9 residents of different ages, ethnicities and social standing are edited into an uninterrupted flow of thought. Rich imagery encompassing the unique building within its extraordinary context, creates a complex dialogue with the spoken word. The two horizontal screens enable a juxtaposition between person and the building. Timelapses of the building's facade, visualising the intense occupation of the dwelling at different times of the day, express the sense of community which most of the residents cherish. On the other hand drone footage explores the odd relationship of corporate office towers, monumental public spaces and a cemetery that create the setting for Résidence One. Ultimately, the film-installation explores the individuals' vastly differing awareness of architecture and the way the building brings the residents together.
